WELCOME TO DIVISION 6-3'S WEBSITE!
This site is intended for both students and parents to check into REGULARLY to keep up to date on current events happening within the school/classroom, as well as current academic information.
It is important that you check regularly, as it will be updated regularly. If you have any questions, please contact me (Mrs. Kerri Faa kfaa@sd69.bc.ca) or my teaching partner (Mr. Martin Jedlik....aka Mr. J @ mjedlik@sd69.bc.ca ) . We hope that this becomes a valuable portion of the necessary communication between the school and the home! Success for your son/daughter in school is of utmost importance and this is a fantastic tool to aid with that!
Parents....if you haven't received an email from me (Mrs. Kerri Faa) yet, that indicates that either I haven't received email information or the information is incorrect. Please send me an email in order to give us yet another avenue for communication. Good communication will be the key to success for your child at middle school.
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION :
BINDERS: Parents, students in grade 6 really struggle with organization, and regular, daily checks of their binder are MANDATORY for their success at SMS. As parents, I need you to partner with me in their education by taking the time to check their binders and duotangs, to show an interest in what they are learning about and also, to keep them in 'check' as to their level of organization. I obviously need your support at home with this, as I cannot take valuable academic time every day to go through their binders, but it is essential for them to be successful on every level of their school experience. BINDER CHECKS ("Upside Down checks", as they are known, )will happen RANDOMLY and WITHOUT WARNING to determine, at a glance, whether a student is, in fact, taking the time to check their binders at the end of the day. Work is expected to be in the subject specific divider, or in the appropriate duotang. IT IS NOT OKAY FOR STUDENTS TO 'STASH' WORK IN THE SIDE POCKETS/FILING SYSTEMS provided in many work binders. That is simply not acceptable organizational habit. Work becomes unpresentable, or worse yet, missing, when left in these areas, and therefore is expected to be moved into appropriate areas of their binder.
HOMEWORK: I expect students to complete their homework when assigned. Should they not understand something, I expect a parent note indicating the question that was not understood, and evidence that they did, in fact, try as much of the assignment as possible. No student will hand in nothing for a homework assignment....it should always be either the work due, or a note from a parent attached to the work due.
STUDENT EMAIL FOR HCE (Personal Planning) CREDIT: On occasion, I will post a 'code' statement that students are expected to email to me (at the above mentioned email address) to earn credit for HCE (Personal Planning) The purpose of this is to evaluate how a student is using the website as a learning tool for their education (and how regularly they are checking it!)
REGULAR HOMEWORK SCHEDULE: Students will NEVER say that they have no homework in division 6-3. It is expected as part of their homework schedule to spend 10 minutes a day in ORGANIZATIONAL DUTIES (organizing their binder, sharpening pencil crayons, restocking their supplies) as well as a minimum of 15 minutes in our 'GET LOST & READ' Reading program. This reading time can be spent reading aloud to a younger sibling, reading the newspaper with a parent or reading their own personal novel selection. LIBRARY DAY is always MONDAY. They will be expected to have their reading material to be renewed, returned and should always have their library card in their binder to retain access to our school's fantastic library. They have a READING LOG due ONCE PER MONTH (on the 30th or closest Friday to it!) for term one, TWICE PER MONTH for term two and TBA for the remainder of the school year. If you have any questions regarding their regular homework schedule, don't hesitate to contact me.
